Get to know Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.
As with many Wisconsin cities, Chippewa Falls derived its name from a native American Indian tribe, the Ojibwas. Early settlers to the area misheard the “Ojibwa” as “Chippewa”. Today the city is home to one of the oldest bottled water facilities in the nation. A French explorer, Pierre-Charles Le Sueur, discovered the Chippewa Spring around 1700. Bottled water first appeared on the market sometime around the late 1800's. The Spring House was built around the spring in 1893 and, today, exists across the street from the modern Premium Waters, Inc plant which still bottles spring water, distilled water, and drinking water exclusively.
Calling itself the gateway to the Northwoods, Chippewa Falls is located in a county that boasts over 300 lakes. Residents and visitors alike enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings which offer great parks and recreational opportunities. Governed by elected officials, the city is also a prime location for businesses. More than 40 manufacturing facilities provide employment for over 5500 residents. Schools, medical facilities, churches, and service organizations complete the amenities found in this city with the “small town” atmosphere.
