Menomonie - right in the middle of everywhere.
As early as 1822, the area of what is now Menomonie in Dunn County saw the beginnings of the lumber industry. An interest in a lumber mill erected at the confluence of Wilson Creek and the Red Cedar River was acquired by lumber barons Andrew Tainter and Henry L. Stout in 1853. The Mabel Tainter Theater and UW-Stout memorialize their names today.
