Thorp is situated around the intersection of Clark County CTH X and State Highway 73. This intersection is part of the famous Yellowstone Trail which ran from Plymouth Rock, MA to Puget Sound, WA. In the 1920's it was completed as the nation's first interstate highway. The trail is marked with yellow stones and signs at the intersection.
Lumber mills and brick foundries were the major industries when first settled in the late 1800's. Later on, when dairying became popular, the city became known for its cheese making. Thorp is governed by a mayor system of elected officials. In addition to Thorp Elementary and Thorp High School, there are 5 private schools and academies in the city. Medical facilities are located within 14 miles. Hiking, snowshoeing, biking, and crosscountry skiing trails are found in the city's two parks, Conway and Yellowstone.
